Sagrada Familia soda machine
The Sagrada Familia, Antoni Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece, is one of Barcelona's most popular tourist attractions and its most important landmark. I couldn't get a shot of the entire church on one frame. Here's the official site.

Mimes of Barcelona
One of the highlights of visiting Barcelona was walking along La Rambla and watching the various mimes, or performance artists, who pose motionless for long periods of time, sometimes balanced on a small platform. They wear elaborate costumes and usually paint their faces and/or bodies to resemble statues.
Church, Ferris wheel at Tibidabo, Barcelona
Tibidabo is a mountain overlooking Barcelona. It is the tallest mountain in the Serra de Collserola and has a spectacular view of the city and the surrounding coastline. There is an amusement park, a telecommunications tower and a Catholic church, the Temple de Sagrat Cor, at the top, all of which are visible from most of the city.
The name Tibidabo derives from the Latin Vulgate Bible verses:
"…et dixit illi haec tibi omnia dabo si cadens adoraveris me"
— "And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me" (Matthew 4:9);
"…et ait ei tibi dabo potestatem hanc universam et gloriam illorum quia mihi tradita sunt et cui volo do illa"
— "All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it" (Luke 4:6).
This was said to Jesus by the devil as they looked down from an exceeding high mountain upon all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them. The name of the hill seems to be a reference to the view.

Obscure Moments in History: Fall of the Tower of Terror
Disney-MGM Studios, 1994. Opening day of Tower of Terror thrill ride. Faced with huge, opening day crowds, several desperate British tourists commandeered a helicopter from the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! ride and proceeded to enter the attraction through the side door, infuriating thousands waiting in line in the Florida summer heat.

"I don't who this guy is, but I know he's cool!," said the 20-year-old clerk at Freaks, a shop in Manhattan's trendy East Village. Che Guevara is everywhere these days. He should be scorned, not worn. Read this to be enlightened.

Chinese propaganda
Wrapping up my Asia Tripping Summer '06, I picked up Mao's Little Red Book and some Chinese propaganda posters before leaving Beijing. The propaganda posters have been the favored vehicle through which art conveyed model behavior in China. I like how the artists stylized the figures with massive arms and the cute kids with weapons. My high school Chinese is a little rusty, but as best as I can translate, here goes:
"You dogs must do all the work today because I'm calling in sick and going to the beach!"
"We laugh at capitalist copyright infringement laws!"
"We must thank Chairman Mao for the nifty weapons and warships!"
"I enjoy reading Chairman Mao's Littled Red Book while I plow the fields!"
"We shall overtake this beach and enforce strict regulations against surfing!"
"HWALP! I should not have consumed so much sake last night as I am hung over and this will certainly lower my productivity in the factory today!"
"Our children will dive to the deepest depths and extract precious gems from the belly of the magical fish!"
